When I was a schoolgirl, I used to wear my hair in a ponytail. It was the fashion those days. I was very proud of it as it was thick and bushy and had a natural curl. However, it soon got in the way. It would brush against Mum's face when I walked past her and whenever that happened, she would yell, "Say 'PAI'!" I soon learnt that saying "PAI" takes away the bad luck that goes with the brushing. Mum was very relieved when I later cut my hair short.
