May this Mid-Autumn Festival bring you and your loved ones happiness, good health, prosperity and cherished moments together.
Wishing you a joyful and blessed Mid-Autumn Festival.
I can't believe that the 15 days of the Chinese New Year are over! Time really flies. This year our 15 days ended with an exciting phenomenon - the Blood Moon. First time I think on Chap Goh Meh and a rare coincidence! The old and superstitious think it is a very inauspicious event and so stayed at home and avoided looking up at the sky. For the young and brave, they were out scanning the sky hours ahead!
There is an age old superstition which says that eclipses are caused by a heavenly dragon or dog devouring the moon. To scare away this celestial beast and prevent disaster, people made loud noises by banging drums, gongs and pots, lighting firecrackers, or shooting arrows. I didn't hear anything in my neighbourhood, so I guess there are no superstitious people in our area.
As for me, I went to bed early. Better be safe than getting in the way of some supernatural beast hungrily munching away at the moon. After all, I can see all the photos the next day in the social media....
Wishing you a prosperous Year of the Horse filled with good fortune, health and happiness!
GONG XI FA CAI
Let the new year be about love, let it be about joy.
Let it be about hope, abundance, faith, trust, understanding.
Let it be about people you love.
Let it be about gratefulness and blessedness.
Here's to new beginnings, new adventures!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Christmas is round the corner again!
Let's make this Christmas a season of peace and goodwill, of love and kindness, of hope and gratitude. Let us spread light to everyone, let us bring joy to everyone.
Oh by the way, do give a kind thought to all the turkeys out there. God will bless you abundantly if you skip them for your Thanksgiving dinner and eat soy instead!
Merry Christmas!
I have received so many nice and pretty CNY greeting messages that I thought it would be a pity to just delete them, so I made them into a collage. Happy Chinese New Year!
May the glow of the moon light your way to good health, happiness and prosperity!
PS. Enjoy your mooncakes!😋
Yay, the Mid-Autumn Festival is round the corner and I have just bought my first mooncakes for this year! Three cute ones with red bean filling - yummy! Moon biscuits are also a great favourite with me. As kids, we used to like them in "piggy baskets". According to my research, bakers used to bake a small piece of dough to test the temperature of their ovens and in the end, they formed these bits of dough into biscuits – in the shape of little pigs – so that they could sell off the extra dough left over when making mooncakes. And that's how piggy biscuits were born! Piggy biscuits are usually presented in a pair to symbolize prosperity and good luck.
Easter Sunday is always a special day for me even though I don't belong to any church. This morning I felt much peace and calm as I stood in the grounds of our local church and spent a few minutes in prayer.
May you too feel the love of God on this blessed day. Happy Easter!
The fifteen days of the Chinese New Year have gone by in a twinkling of the eye and while tonight is THE night for the young who will be throwing oranges into the sea for a dreamy soulmate, we oldies shall be staying home and comparing aches and pains and ruminating through the past years perhaps with some laughter and in some cases, with some regret. Sadly, the passage of time has not left several of our older relatives unscarred as I saw when I visited them during the new year. CNY celebrations do not mean anything to them any more when they're down with dementia or some illness. We all wish we can stop the clock and stay eternally young and healthy but that's like the ox wishing for the moon (an old Chinese saying). Well, I'm not going to spoil my 15th Night or yours with this gloomy talk. I'm going to eat my bubur cha cha now and relish every bite!
HAPPY CHAP GOH MEH!
