Always in My Heart

It's been four years since you've been gone, dear.  I still remember your funny and naughty antics.  Hope you don't trouble the angels too much up there!  Missing you dearly....

Christmas Presents of a Third Kind

Honey (my cat) gave me three surprise Christmas presents recently.  Last week, it was a grasshopper, then this week a baby mouse and two days ago a baby lizard.  He would proudly carry his present into the house each time and lay it at my feet.  Thanks, Honey and it's not that I don't appreciate your thoughtfulness but ughh!  These are really not the presents I have in mind for Christmas!  Oh oh, a thought just occurred to me - I hope he's not planning to give me a present for each of the twelve days of Christmas....

Cat Talk

If only my cat could talk.  I'm sure he has lots of fascinating tales to tell.  Sometimes I see him stare at something (or someone) past my shoulder.  I turn round but there's nothing or no one there.  Just what did he see?  I get goose pimples just thinking of what he may tell me if he could talk .... maybe it's best not to know!

Happy Birthday, Honey!

My cat turned one today! I had him all spruced up with a red bow round his neck (which he kept pulling off) and asked him to blow the candle on the cake.  But he seemed to be more interested in the strawberries and cream and I had to pull him away before he messed up the cake!  Oh, by the way, he's having a big fish all to himself for dinner tonight, lucky cat!

A Cat's Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray this cushy life to keep.
I pray for toys that look like mice,

And sofa cushions, soft and nice.

I pray for gourmet kitty snacks,

And someone nice to scratch my back,

For windowsills all warm and bright,

For shadows to explore at night.

I pray I'll always stay real cool

And keep the secret feline rule

To never tell a human that

The world is really ruled by cats!

Home At Last

I had to go away for a few days recently and sent my cat to board at a nearby vet.  It is a nice, clean place with the silence occasionally broken by the barks of sick dogs. I don't think he was too happy about being shut up in a cage as he is used to roaming about the house but it couldn't be helped.  When I picked him up today, he almost jumped out of the cage and couldn't wait to get home!  Now he's master of the house again and he makes sure I know it.

A Lot to Meow About

"Animals are such agreeable friends, they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms."

George Eliot

I'm not sure whether that applies to my cat.  There are times when he makes angry noises when I'm doing something.  Sometimes he gets so frustrated he bites my ankles and his bolster.  If he could speak, I bet he would have a lot to meow about.

Narrow Escape

My cat has been unusually affectionate these last few days.  He comes up to me, rubs his head against my ankle and rolls around my feet. A few days ago, he was cornered by four big dogs but managed to escape.  He later came back to the house limping and with three dog bites on his body.  I immediately took him to the vet for treatment and thankfully he's okay now. I have since then kept him indoors at night for his own safety.  I know he misses his nightly sojourns outside the house and he goes about every evening with a bored expression on his face.  I suspect he is playing up to me so that I will let him out!

Three's Enough

I was recently offered a half Persian cat by a friend who already had too many cats in her house.  After weighing the pros and cons, I decided to decline the offer.  I felt that one cat (plus two orphaned kittens) are enough for us.  They not only give me a rude awakening every morning when they thunder up the stairs but I also have to trudge to the market every week to get them their favourite fish.  Cats are pretty demanding creatures and they won't settle for anything less than the best.  And they also know how to look nice and cute when they want something.

Dancing in His Sleep

That's my cat, dancing in his sleep. Wonder who he's waltzing with.

P.S. This morning, he climbed up to the roof of our house and couldn't get down.  We heard him mewing away and my maid had to climb up the roof to rescue him.  I guess he likes the roof because it provides him with an aerial view of his "territory".

The Face in the Post Box

My cat is up to his tricks again.  This time he thinks he's from the CIA and uses our postbox as a hideout to spy on the enemy.  His other hideout is the bathroom window.  Now we not only have a secret agent but a Peeping Tom as well.

Naughty, naughty

This morning my cat jumped onto the stove and sat in our frying pan.  If Mum had been there, she would have stir fried him.

Smug Cat

I don't think cats have any worries.  Take my cat - he eats, sleeps, plays, eats, sleeps, plays.  He doesn't have income tax problems or osteoporosis.  I envy him.

Secret Life

I think my cat has got a secret life.  After dinner every night, he will disappear somewhere and come home only the next morning.  And after breakfast he will sleep the whole day until dinner time.  Then he's off again.  Whatever his nocturnal  activities are, he's not telling me.  I suspect he's got a sexy female friend out there.

Ulterior Motive

When my cat snuggles up to me, he's got an ulterior motive.  He knows I'm the supplier of his daily fish and he expects every meal to be served on time, no matter how busy I am.

The Meaning of Life

They say the meaning of life is happiness and peace.  My cat tells me it's fish and 24 hours' sleep.
