My 87 year old aunt said the other day that having a bad memory is actually an asset. For one thing, she mused, you don't remember the bad times you've had, what people say about you, your sad memories, even your aches and pains. But if you forget to take your medication, forget your appointment with someone, things like that, I asked. She shrugged. "God will take care," she said nonchalantly. "Now let's go home." I had to very gently tell her that she was at home and not anywhere else.
