If Mum were alive today, I can imagine how excited she would be at the prospect of another new year coming! She would be madly rushing to the market to get all the paraphernalia for worshipping and reminding me of the do's and don'ts for the new year .... things like "Don't wash or cut your hair during the new year", "Don't sweep the floor on the first day of the new year" and so on. All these superstitions are related to luck of course and if you want a good new year, you should abide by them. I am simplifying things this year, mainly because I haven't got the energy to do all the rushing! The markets are so crowded these few days, not to speak of the difficulty in getting a parking space! I still miss Mum and her zest for life - CNY will never be the same without her.
