In her younger days, Mum used to write to pen friends overseas. They were from various countries in Europe and Mum, being an avid stamp collector, exchanged stamps with them. When Christmas time came around, they sent each other Christmas cards and little gifts. It was a simple and delightful pastime with none of the hassle of modern technology. I still have Mum's stamp albums and they bring back such fond memories of her whenever I look at them.
