Yesterday, 14th February was the seventh day of the Chinese New Year. According to Chinese legend, this was the day humanity was created. To celebrate this day, a traditional dish called "Yee Sang": comprising seven symbolic ingredients is eaten. It is usually a very jolly affair because when it is eaten, the ritual is to toss it as high as possible using chopsticks accompanied by shouts of "Loh Hey" ("Move Upwards"). The dish is symbolic of good luck, prosperity, good health and all things auspicious. I had the opportunity of taking part in the tossing on two separate occasions, so I hope I can look forward to a very good year this time round! "Loh Hey"!!
