Today is the 4th day of the Chinese New Year and I suddenly realised, with a little sadness, that we have hardly any old relatives left, apart from our 87 year old aunt, an uncle and another aunt. Gone are the days when we trooped from house to house wishing our elders "Happy New Year" and sampling their cake and cookies! They have all passed on with the passage of time and we (my sis and a few cousins of the same generation) are the only few in the family who still carry on this age old tradition. Our younger generation is either studying overseas or away on holiday. Traditions such as this matter no more. What a shame....
