Well, it's done. After months of fear and anxiety, I finally plucked up courage to have my shots and being me, things just had to be complicated. My first vaccination centre was way up in the country, you could say half way round the island. I don't know why they sent me there, so after a tortuous journey of about an hour along lonely, winding roads, I finally arrived at the vaccination centre, only to be told that they didn't have the vaccine of my choice. I must say we in this country are lucky we can make a choice, other countries are not that generous. So it was another long journey home accompanied by heavy rain. Ten days later, I received notice of my new appointment, thankfully at a location near my home. But then again, not the vaccine of my choice. So back home I went and this time it also rained.
Finally after another ten days or so, I received a new appointment, this time at a hospital I am familiar with. And guess what? They had the vaccine I wanted! So after being received by friendly nurses and a talk with a dishy looking doctor, I braced myself for my first shot. Well, it wasn't that bad, I felt only a slight prick. Still my legs were doing a samba of their own and I felt ravenously hungry when I got home. So I gobbled down an egg tart and some milk and as advised by friends who had got their shot, took a nap. Fortunately I also slept well that night despite a slight ache in my left arm where the needle went in.
The next day I was expecting all kinds of symptoms, having heard from my friends about theirs. I did feel feverish and had some body ache but thank God I began to feel more like my old self after a few days.
Of course the three weeks before my second shot were full of anxiety but I was more calm this time when I went back to the hospital especially when the same dishy looking doctor recognised me and came over to give some encouraging words.
So now that it's done, it cannot be undone. I am grateful to my friends who have been very supportive and who seem to have tons of advice on how to treat post vacc side effects like drinking coconut water, honey and sleeping right thru the day - the last is probably the best!!
What a relief it's all over, at least for now. Please spare me talk about booster shots, by the way, I will cross that bridge when I come to it!
