My mum used to have cheongsams made for her by a tailor from Shanghai. He was very wellknown in those days and his workmanship surpassed all others in the trade. Mum always kept her figure trim and neat so that she could fit into the cheongsams he made. I still have a few of these cheongsams which I have kept in remembrance of her. They were fashioned from silk, brocade and lace and had pretty frog buttons. It's a pity I can't get into them but then again I don't think I'm prepared to sacrifice all that yummy ice cream and desserts so that I can wear them!
