We lost our half Siamese cat a few weeks ago when the dogs around the neighbourhood went on a rampage and bit her. She was a quiet, docile cat with hardly any meanness in her but she was just plain unlucky that night. When we found her missing in the morning, we searched the area and found her lying by the roadside, a big wound on her body. It was too late to do anything for her. My maid was so upset that she swore that she would tear apart each and every dog that bit her.
Such is life. Everything is impermanent and that includes those we love. They have to leave us one day.
