Continuing CNY do's and don'ts. As kids, we were warned by Mum not to speak "bad" words during the first fifteen days of the New Year. "Bad" words are those referring to death, illness, misfortune - anything negative. So we had to be careful what came out of our mouths during this time! It wasn't very difficult for us but our amah, whose tongue was sometimes uncontrollable, was a big headache for Mum! So much so that every new year, Mum would send her back to her relative's house and bring her back only after Chap Goh Meh!
