Chinese New Year always brings to mind the many do's and don'ts that Mum had drilled into our brains from young. Perhaps a foremost "don't" is "Don't sweep the house on New Year's Day" because it means you'll be sweeping away the good luck! As a matter of fact, all the housework comes to a standstill on this day - no washing, ironing or cleaning of any sort. If there's any work to be done, it has to be finished by New Year's Eve. Incidentally, all debts should be paid by the end of the year, otherwise you'll end up borrowing throughout the new year!
