A Sweet and Sour Ending

All good things must come to an end and Chinese New Year is no exception.  Now that the fifteen days are over and we have spent all our money, it's time to take a rest!

I visited an elderly neighbour on Chap Goh Meh and found her in a bitter, resentful mood. "Chinese New Year nowadays is not meaningful any more," she grumbled.  "Now all the youngsters want is my ang pows, they come to see me once a year for that.  At other times I don't see their faces.  Oh, how I miss the good old days ...."  Well, I couldn't find anything to say to console her.  Times have changed and we have to flow with the tide and sadly, it's always more difficult for the older generation.  I couldn't help thinking that if Mum were alive today, she would probably have the same gripes!!
