My travel bug has taken me to Hainan Island, China this time. It was a most interesting and exciting trip and it opened up a whole new vision of China for me. Despite the language barrier (most of us could not speak Mandarin), we were treated very courteously and politely. We travelled through roads and highways which were in excellent condition and very clean - not even a scrap of paper or a single leaf lying around! What struck me next was that the people are a caring society. I saw road signs with little useful reminders for drivers and when we visited the gardens and wetlands, we were cautioned not to step on the flowers and grass because they too have life. I was not able to photograph all the signs but here are a few which I managed to scribble down when we were on the highway:
Do not drink and drive
No cell phone use when driving
No fatigue driving
No drunken driving
Wish you a safe journey
Perhaps the best quotes I saw were:
Please help people in need
In order to respect each other, please speak softly.
Caring and sharing - is this why there are so many centenarians on the island?
